My Review

I really enjoyed this book. It's got a fresh and unique story line with a good plot. It's definitely interesting and it kept me intrigued. I definitely liked some of the characters. And I really liked the little twist at the end. And I may also have a few critiques. Lol

Carmel is our leading lady. She had a crappy life, no ways to go around it. She grew up in foster care and her most recent stay landed her in a mental institution at 17. She's really smart, had a gift, and had learned to keep to herself. It takes her a bit to discover that she's gifted, or Talented. I like the idea of how this became to be, a lot. But no secrets. It's a little magic :) on the event of her tragic demise- lookie my big words lol- she is rescued from the mental institution by a group of kids her age. Those kids will become her friends and mentors to help her figure herself out. And she will get to live at HoT, the house of talented.

I loved all the talents in the different characters. It's amazing what some of them are! And who each talent belongs to. I loved her new friends, including the married couple that are her teachers. But not everyone is nice or good.

Here's my complaint. While the story is great, the characters are likable, the editing needs some help. I love a lot of dialogue. I don't love when I don't know who says what in the dialogue. If there's "talking" I actually want to have a name at the end of a sentence. Not different characters contributing to the "talking" but I'm not sure who actually said which sentences. No worries, it didn't hinder my love for the story, but I really want to read book two, because it's gunna be even cooler than this one. And hopefully, these little things are easily fixed. I know, amazing that my expensive college education actually works outside of my career lol but I was always a big stickler for grammar and structure hahaha I totally could have been a teacher instead because of it :)

So with that said, I think this is a really fun book! I'm seriously looking forward to where Devon, flora, Carmel, and our cool group of talented are going to go from here. If you like some mystery surrounding  some very awesome supernatural abilities, dive in. And I have a feeling this is just the surface. There's gunna be even more greatness to come :) 4.5 PAWS!!
