Gramps always said that when the crickets were quiet, something bad was coming. And the crickets have been as silent as the dead. It started with the murdered deer in the playground, a purple foxglove in its mouth. But in the dying boondock town of Emerald Cove, life goes on.
I work at Gramps’s diner, and the cakes—the entitled rich kids who vacation here—make our lives hell. My best friend, Alex Pace, is the one person who gets me, and I’m starting to have more-than-friend feelings for him—feelings I don’t want to have. But he’s changing. He’s almost like a stranger now, keeping secrets and picking fights with the cakes.
Then one of the cakes disappears.
When she turns up murdered, a foxglove in her mouth, a rumor goes around that Alex was the last person seen with her—and everyone but me believes it. Well, everyone except my worst enemy, Jenika Shaw. When Alex goes missing, it’s up to us to prove his innocence and uncover the true killer. But the truth will shatter everything I’ve ever known about myself—and Alex.

My Review

I normally stay in my lane, paranormal, urban fantasy, but this one sounded so good, and it was. I wasn't really sure at first when I read the blurb, but I'm glad I tried it, because murder mystery is goodness. :) At least here it is. It's a page turner, will keep you on your seat, with the lights on. And the mystery solvers are friends and I loved them. The writing is really well done. It has a ton of suspense. And there's a little plot that will knock your socks off. I loved the killer's thoughts. Way creeptastic. The characters are well done. The feel real, which is hard to do. Nova is always looking into something, Alex is her best friend, and then something takes them by surprise. And Jenika is the character who seals the deal for awesome. I can't say too much, and I'm not used to writing reviews for novels like this one, but I will say, it's seriously good. If you like a good plot, with surprises and a murder mystery with a beautiful teen/YA coming into themselves, it's a great read!!4.5 PAWS!!
