Thief of Lies by Brenda Drake w Giveaway!

Thief of Lies (Library Jumpers, #1)
Title: Thief of Lies (Library Jumpers, #1)
Release date: 1/5/16
Author: Brenda Drake

About the book:
Gia Kearns would rather fight with boys than kiss them. That is, until Arik, a leather clad hottie in the Boston Athenaeum, suddenly disappears. While examining the book of world libraries he abandoned, Gia unwittingly speaks the key that sucks her and her friends into a photograph and transports them into a Paris library, where Arik and his Sentinels—magical knights charged with protecting humans from the creatures traveling across the gateway books—rescue them from a demonic hound.

Jumping into some of the world's most beautiful libraries would be a dream come true for Gia, if she weren’t busy resisting her heart or dodging an exiled wizard seeking revenge on both the Mystik and human worlds. Add a French flirt obsessed with Arik and a fling with a young wizard, and Gia must choose between her heart and her head, between Arik's world and her own, before both are destroyed.

Author's Dream Cast
PS I picked the pictures since I had technical difficulties so don't fault the author if these are the right photos LOL :)
Today I’m here to share my dream cast for THIEF OF LIES (Library Jumpers Book 1). I’m sure most of us wonder who would be the perfect actor for our favorite book characters should they make it into a movie. When sketching a character, I tend to search for actors and save pictures of them in a folder so that I can a visual while writing the story. So, here’s a list of what I think would be the perfect cast.

Lead roles:

Gia: I think Maia Mitchell is nearly a perfect fit for Gia. All she’d need was some green-colored contact lenses and she’d be a perfect match.

Arik: Okay, so Gregg Sulkin is totally Arik for me. And he even has dimples! So I had to give you two pics of him one sexy and one with those adorable dimples.

Bastien: It was difficult to find an actor for him. I wanted to find actors that were close to my characters ages, because I wanted them to be as true to today’s actors as possible. I think Sterling Beaumon comes pretty close. Especially while posing like this!

Gia’s friends:
Nick: In my novel, Nick is of Italian descent. I’m not sure if Nick Robinson is or not, but he resembles my son, who Nick is created after, so he fits perfect. Fun fact, Nick Robinson and I share the same birthday!

Afton: I really enjoyed writing Afton. She’s sassy, into style, and just beautiful. And Kiersey Nicole Clemons is all that and a bag full of makeup!

The Sentinels:
Lei: I really like Lei in the story, she’s fierce with humor. Erika Toda is exactly how imagine her. Such beauty and strength!

Kale: Every assemble needs a strong, patient character and Kale is that for this story. Another character I had a hard time matching up with an actor, but I think Avan Jogia will do nicely.

Demos: What can I say about Demos? He’s Nick’s nemisis and he has a great sense of humor. I think Luke Benward fits him well.

Jaran: I had to save one of my favorites for last. I think Corbin Bleu is a good match for him. You don’t get to know Jaran very well in book one, but he plays a major role in book two. He’s sensitive and caring and I just want to sit and watch movies and drink hot cocoa with him. You’ll see if you buy book two!

I hope you enjoyed this as much as I did. I’ve lived with these characters for so long, I’m ready to go on the next journey with them. I hope you join us!

Top 10 Reason Arik of Thief of Lies is swoon-worthy

Young knight's portrait

Arik Baine - Sentinel
Age: 17
Battle Globe: Red (Fire)
Description: Leader, strong silent type, and fiercely loyal.

Friends don't think of each other the way I think of you. As it is, I can't sleep at night worrying about you being here. The danger you face.” ~ Arik Baine, Thief of Lies

Who doesn’t love a swoon-worthy hero? We stay up late at night reading about their deliciousness, talking about them with our reader friends, and they keep us going back to our favorite stories. Today, I’m here to give you the top ten reasons I think Arik Baine from Thief of Lies is swoon-worthy. I hope you agree!

  1. He’s easy on the eyes … The first thing we notice about someone is their looks. Arik has dark hair and deep brown eyes. He’s athletic. He has to be since he’s a Sentinel and fights unfathomable creatures.
  1. His accent … I don’t know about you, but for some reason when I guy speaks in a sexy accent, his hotness goes up several notches for me. Per Gia, “He’d quoted a verse from The Secret Garden with a sexy accent that tickled my ears.”
  1. Humor … I love me some humor in the guys I’m attracted to. Arik is all business most times, but every so often, he lets down his guard and we get a glimpse of his hidden playfulness. Here’s a hint of it when he says after they fell in the mud, “You need to get dry,” he said, a hint of amusement lingering in his voice. “Moreover, your entire backside is caked in mud.”
  1. Good kisser … Um, yeah. What can I say? He has a gentle, passionate kiss.
  1. Strength … He doesn’t hesitate, rushing into battle with fierce determination.
  1. Leader … Seriously? Who doesn’t love an authoritative, take-charge guy? He’s all that and he cares about those under his watch.
  1. Protective … He would do anything to protect those who can’t defend themselves. He immediately takes charge of making sure Gia is safe.
  1. Badass … He can manipulate his globe like no other Sentinel and he’s a fierce fighter with amazing sword handling skills.
  1. Gentle … I mentioned this in the way he kisses, but it goes deeper than that. He’s sincere and kind to everyone.
  1. Loyal … He’s trustworthy and always there for those he cares about. He will never waver when someone needs him.

My Review

WOW! I wasn't expecting this at all! I mean, I kinda knew a little from reading the blurb, but I was not prepared for awesomeness!! I mean come on, we are all big readers around here, so add some magic into libraries and BAM we gotta winner!!! This is a brilliantly created world with excellent characters and fantastic story telling and some great writing to boot!! I loved every second of it!

So our main character is Gia. I think I liked that she grew so much. She started out timid and afraid, but became what she needed to be. She went from a high school girl of normalcy to learning and navigating a world of magic. And I absolutely loved the side characters. All of them are well written and you see some great potential for more to be given about them in the future! I know this is the first book and we have to establish more story and world building than character building in these cases, but I still thought it was so cool. And there's a little bit of romance to go around :) And I have some feeling about this... I won't tell you cuz I think something is going to be in the future that will change. I dunno, we will have to see. :)

I really really liked the library setting and how everything revolved around them. It's something so unique and fresh and well created. And no it's not just boring dusty books, there's magic and creatures- Mystics- and action and romance and twists and surprises. See, cool book right!! The way the magic revolves around the globes and the sentinels, I think it's so cool! I know I sound elementary but I swear I just kept saying it in my head when I was reading LOL  So with that said, I really look forward to seeing more from this author, more of these characters, and some great additions to the world that was created here!! 4.5 MAGICAL PAWS!!

Author Bio

Brenda Drake
Brenda Drake, the youngest of three children, grew up an Air Force brat and the continual new kid at school. Her fondest memories growing up is of her eccentric, Irish grandmother’s animated tales, which gave her a strong love for storytelling. So it was only fitting that she would choose to write stories with a bend toward the fantastical. When Brenda’s not writing or doing the social media thing, she’s haunting libraries, bookstores, and coffee shops or reading someplace quiet and not at all exotic (much to her disappointment).
